Hello everyone,
Hope you are doing great ! I am reaching out as i am faced with a sort of an issue. I am in the process of rebuilding my R380 (everything has worked out fine so far) and have reached the point of installing the split thrust washer on top of the 5th gear. My R380 is the one of the later ones that did not have the roll pin on the mainshhaft that holds the split washer. I want to ask whether the split washer should be quite a tight fit or if it should simply slide on the groove. My case is the first one. Upon installing it on the mainshaft, the whole gearbox requires much more force to turn. Let me know if its okay the way it is or in case something is wrong, please inform me of your thoughts. Many thanks for your time and interest !
Kindest Regards

Watch this 4 part youtube video, maybe is it because the roll pin in missing, I looked at the R380 on a D1 the manual is not that good but the R380 manual for a D2 its listed as I item 19 on page 37-4

Many thanks for your answer ! I actually have watched Mikes R380 videos quite a lot of times. The idea that the split collar is tight due to the fact that the roll pin is missing is something i thought of as well but i am not sure. I have emailed Mike at Britannica Restorations and he says it must not be tight. It should be a sliding fit. I will also try Ashcroft to see what they say.

if it had a roll pin it would not spin as the pin keeps in from spinning on the shaft but allows the shaft to spin, and the oils to go in both holes on the split ring
