Hi everyone
I have a scrap 300tdi discovery that I'm having the engine and box out of for my defender. I was testing the box before removing it to check if all the gears and high low range seem ok. I had it in low range on a field and drove it up to 5th gear. It seemed to make a wine especially when letting off the throttle. Is this normal? I don't want to put it in my defender unless I know it's right. TIA

Yes I would say quite normal, from memory, my older ones certainly howl in low range, even my D3 does the same.

You do know the r380 has a longer bellhousing & the box will sit further back so mods will be needed
to convert long stick to short & the gear stick will further back.

Hi thanks for the reply. I have heard so many different things about gearbox swaps between discovery and defender including bell housing lengths. I have laid underneath and mearused the bell housing on both and they appear to be the same. I was hoping to then fit a kit that moves the gearstick. Once I have them both striped down I'll see for sure.
