Hello there,
Iwas wondering with this r/r if I can manually lock the diff by fitting a switch. I have no lever to lock them on my model and was wondering what it really would be capable off road. Are the diffs locking automatically? There is no visual indicator on the dash. Is there a way of preventing no traction when one side of the vehicle is on slip and the other solid?
Much appreciated (new to this- sorry if I sound as daft as I am!)
cheers

Hi Undark, it would appear you have a late model Classic Range Rover or newer. These have a viscous coupled centre differential that automaticly locks up when required in a low grip situation. The front and rear axles dont have these.

cheers for the reply, I was interested also in the opinion of this system - how effective off road?

Mike,
Because there are no lockers on the front and rear axles, if the going gets slippy you can get into trouble with a lack of drive. That said I have never got stuck, but then again I havnt realy pushed my old girl hard off road. If you plan to go green laning or similar you will be fine, if you plan to tackle the black runs at your local quarry buy a winch, or some aftermarket air lockers or similar.

On the whole for your average fun outing on the beach, forest or dirt track things will be fine. If you plan to get a little more extreme, a good set of tyres are a must- Goodyear Trac-Edge are a favorite compromise tyre.
