Hello all,

I'm ready now to swap my diffs back to Range Rover ones. Last time I swapped the front diff I had the front axle in bits. Now I'd like to try and do this in a single session but looking at the book it recommends taking all the steering arms and brake pipes off and pulling the whole swivel assembly off the axle...would it not be easier to pull of the brake drum and just undo the brake back plate and stub axle and pull that out....

If putting same half shafts back, just split at the flange behind the swivel housing and move out just enough to swop the diff leaving brakes and hubs complete. You will have to disconnect one trackrod end. Swivel seals can be renewed this way as well, brake pipe will need disconnecting.Whole unit is quite heavy so be prepared. CHEERS.

Yeah, it's the UJ in the driveshaft that gets in the way. As above but it's worth disconnecting the track rod ends and brake pipes so you can take the shafts fully out and you can replace the swivel seals on the workbench and put new ball to axle case gaskets in.

usually theres enough slack on flexi hose to undo 6 swivel to axle bolts and pull whole wheel station enough away to swap diffs ,support well so it doesnt pull on flexi too much

hi chaps, got a series with a 2.5 td 19j in it and it only does 50 mph !, with regard to RR diffs, where do you put the oil in as the filler plug is on the diff on series but on pan on RR ????

later series have plug in rear dif pan ,thats he reason early rrc diffs were used as they have plug in diff housing ,later rrc diffs like defenders and discos dont ,you can make your own plug or swap rear pan

i was thinking along the lines of driving sideways up a steep slope, and dropping the oil down one of the half shafts haha !, no so the axle metal , could i just drill a hole, and tap it, how thin is it ? i guess it only needs to be like a bung, no pressure etc
