Going to replace the starter motor on my 300tdi, defender 90 and was looking on the forum and never found anything on this, but I was wondering does the starter motor require a gasket, or some of that gasket paste? Plus do the bolts need locktite?

thanks in advance

no and no. never heard of doing that on american stuff either. Star washer under bolt head maybe if you worried about bolts, nuts coming lose

All done, not as bad as I had heard it was.

We got an 84 and kept it all original and put in the 300tdi over in the UK, bought it through liveridge, and shipped it to the states. Illinois is one of the better states to bring it into because they diesels don't need emissions. We called up customs in the chicago port and told them exactly what we were bringing through and they know all about defenders, and this was 3 years ago now. They told us as long as you are bringing them through for personal use and not to try and sell then we were fine. they never even opened the container...

You are 1 lucky person. In all my checking they have to be petrol, or engine for year of land rover/series allowed in the states. Have heard where some have had theres crushed dock side for having 300tdi as this was not the motor allowed in the states. Most were either 2,25 petrol, or straight 6 petrol, or 3.5 V8's.
