How about a 110 defender?

Just passed my MOT last week with one missing. They'te only about £6 from Fanny Paddocks though.

I'll be getting some new ones, eventually. But its cheaper for me to pick them up from paddocks rather than have them delivered. So it just means that I can go pick them up, instead of waiting and paying extra for delivery.

I think you may find that Contruction and Use Regs say that all motor vehicles MUST have the wheels covered and guarded in such a way as excess mud and spray isn't thrown up. There will be laid down definitions and standards.

The vehicle makers will have had prototypes passed, and in the case of Landies I feel pretty sure they had to fit decent mudflaps to get a pass. I mean, imagine a Defender 90 with no rear flaps. Bad luck being behind that on a muddy road!

Therefore, as we all have a sort of legal obligation to MAINTAIN our cars in that sort of intended condition, we COULD get in bother if we got pulled for no rear flaps and gave a cops a lot of cheek. I think a court COULD convict under C & U Regs for inadequate mudflaps and poor anti-spray protection.

If you buy a brand new Defender, it doesn't come with mud flaps. They are an optional extra.

So therefore i am being partially considerate with my one!!!

A thought it came with rear flaps as standard? And not front ones?

And I've got my new numberplate, just gotta get my mudflaps and brackets now.

my 90 has never had then, not had a problem either.

have often been tempted to get some, more important stuff to spend on though.

Is that not why windscreen wipers/washers are part of the MOT??

if its that muddy you wont be going that fast. if you are close enough to get splattered by mud, you are too close.

I agree, but if a shiny clean slitty car on it's way to M&S gets sprayed with mud from the back wheels of a Landy with no flaps .... you know who they will blame.

I still think the LAW says that ALL vehicles must be equipped with REASONABLE guards over the wheels to reduce as far as practicable the throwing up of spray and mud that could reach other road users.

But I keep my washer bottle filled to the brim just in case I end up behind a muddy Landy.

Bring it on ..........I wouldnt mind in the slightest

from what i remember charlesy, the wheels have to be 'covered' by the bodywork - i.e. my LR with no eyebrows is currently technically not legal.
I know that trailers need wheelarches, else they throw stuff high into the air, but id not heard anything about mudflaps before. Theres a hell of a lot of cars without them, and they can be very easily ripped off by enthuistaic off road reversing!
