I need to make some brackets up tomorrow as have booked Friday off work to lift the engine and replace the rear core plugs.
Hope someone can give me some quick advice - as I understand I should lift from the offside rear head bolt (nearest the bulkhead) as pictured here:

Is this correct?

And what about the nearside front? I cant find a bracket anywhere on the block, theres a couple of threaded holes on the front corner of the head but these are pretty small.

Would I get away with using the front head bolt as well?
I really do not want to have to do another HG job if I bugger this up

I need to know asap to ensure I make up the right size brackets in work tomorrow, presumably these should just be right angled steel plates with holes big enough to take the head/block bolts and shackles..

Thanks

Those 2 holes at the front are what the front lifting point bolts into. The rear lifting point also bolts into 2 holes like that, not one of the head bolts.

O really, I didn't realise that.
Any idea what thread size the bolts need to be?
And presumably they need to be high tensile?
Any other way around this other than wrapping a sling around the sump? I dont fancy the idea of that..
Thanks

Thanks, this helps a lot.
Ive just found that the official part #s are etc8031 and etc8036 but not sure I will find anywhere that would deliver them by next day.
You wouldnt happen to know what the distance is between the holes on the rear offside corner - is it the same as the front?

Can you not just put a couple of straps around the underside of the engine? That is what I do...

Also, just to add, I have a 300Tdi rear engine lifting bracket but it doesn't fit the 200Tdi. Not sure if my engine is a little different or that Britcar is not right.

hole spacing for brackets differes front and back ,disco use rear mount off head bolts as rear of engine sits under scuttle panel def bracket on rear of head ,just make brackets that fit on one hole it will be more than enough to lift engine

Ok, engine out all new core plugs fitted now all back together but I have an issue with the wiring.
If if switch ignition on the black relay next to coolant reservoir clicks but I get no buzz from the fuel pump.
Trying to start it up, the brown/orange wire from positive on battery to main wiring loom burns up.
Im really stuck now need to get car back on the road today can anyone help??

The shear on an m8 8.8 bolt is 3.5 tons, so 2 of them on a simple lift will be plenty good enough.

burns up? sounds like a short, connected to earth.

black relay? glow plug relay?

Yep correct, thanks I sorted it in the end was a glow plug lead shorting on the head. Managed to set light to the loom and start a fire so worth watching out for..
Disco back up and running now, had a bit of fun took it out for a spin without bonnet. I certainly don't fancy pulling that engine again for a while, the LR rear lifting bracket is a bad design as it covers the cylinder head core plug, also it is very difficult to replace the rear offside plug as the casting bolted to the back off the block is in the way
