I need to replace the centre silencer for the MOT and I'm trying to find out what size the sealing ring is that goes between the silencer and the cat pipe. I've tried searching on here and googling but I cannot find out.

Does anyone know, before I start pulling out what little hair I've got left?

Oh and it's a 96 300Tdi.

First off find out if can buy the centre box on its own - everyone I spoke to says the whole back end comes as a kit now ,. so I just had to buy the lot .

Its been a while since I did one of these but I dont remember a ring in there , I thought it was mated flares on pipe ends ....????

Thought they were held together by jubuliee clips, or the clamps which are a bolt in a U shape with two nuts.

My 300Tdi has better emissions/smoke test now without the cat or centre box, exhaust is straight through to backbox .. and the de-cat downpipe and rest of system is cheaper than centre box on it's own!

I still have the old centre box I can measure for you, if it'll help, but not till tomorrow ..

Sod it....I think I will just use the middle/back stuff I bought and the spare de cat downpipe I got ....then I will have a new system throughout - just hope the MOT dont pounce !

Cheers mate. I ordered the box from ebay as it was about the only place that wasn't trying to sell me the two part system. The only reason I've assumed there's a sealing ring is because Mr Haynes says there is. I had a look underneath and it looks like there should be, flared ends held by two bolts.

Cheers for all the help and don't worry about hijacking my thread.:p

i got a sport exhaust from paddocks, straight through centre and rear box. The bore seems alittle larger also. I paid £34.50 +vat and delivery so for £46.60 not bad. car seems alittle more responive on the throttle, ok alittle louder, but also has a more throaty note, with the turbo behind

Im using the paddocks exhaust and its all good. MOT wont worry about the cat or even the center silencer, without any they are a bit loud and will fail but with just the one it will be fine. As far as gaskets go, its a metal gasket on the manifold to down pipe, you would paste the down pipe to center join, the rest uses standard clamps.

Mine has no cat or centre box so does that mean its a fail then
