I think the alternator on our 5 door 109, 2.25 petrol, is not putting out any current as battery voltage is not maintained when headlights are turned on.
I have a Haynes manual and a Brooklands manual. Wiring diagrams in both are the same for 2.25 petrol negative earth vehicles. They show a "dynamo" and a regulator with terminals marked A1 A F D E.
My understanding of the term "dynamo" is that it would apply to a generator, not an alternator. I know older Land Rovers did have generators so I am a bit confused. Do they really mean generator in these diagrams or do they use this term for an alternator? Second question is about the regulator they show. Is this the regulator that is inside the alternator or a separate one that would be mounted on the bulkhead? I am thinking it is the one inside the alternator as the wiring diagram shows one of the connections going to the charge indicator light and also to the F terminal on the alternator which I believe is the Field terminal. In addition I saw the exact same regulator that is in our alternator on a vendor's site and it was listed as a regulator.
I think we have a 16ACR alternator. What sort of amps is this capable of? Any straightforward replacements that would put out more amps for driving lights, etc.
Once again, thanks for past help and any given in the future.
Cheers,
Gordon
