Quad Carbs

currently have a 3.5 V8 running SU carbs, any folks upgraded to the holier quads? Was told they should make a fair bit of difference..

Ive herd they are only good for balls out driving (drag racing} etc

I have been known to be wrong though

That could well be the case the guy mentioned it in the context of Rover V8 racing saying the first thing they did was swap the carbs and put a straight through exhaust on..

Are you talking quad SUs or a quad barrel carb


The revue of Quad SU cards I read was years ago when I was in the V8 Manta club
Im sure the conclusion was they are only good for raceing

I cant fault my Weber apart from it runs ritch

If the 4 barrel is sized to the engine they are good. Thing is some think bigger is better and there is the problem.

My first post i though he meant Quad SUs {then put me specks on}

But yes you are right

I've got a Weber/Edelbrock 850 thats far too big for a 3.5 though

a 450-500 for them and your Caddy will have issues with that big of one

That was not the factory installed carb.

might not be but its been on it for the last decade with no issues.........considering my car is hardly factory anyway it makes no odds

original was a Carter 650-700cfm

well I'm pretty sure this is an 850 as the number is 7W8507

I would say the same, so it is a after market one then, not OEM


Not sure know............ any other numbers on that?

TBH, I was just looking for a bit more oomph , more than happy with the sound track etc

Doc ..why you on defense so often???its too big..its for balls out power..now just cos its fitted to your engine dont mean its tuned for it..
this time i must agree with thor..

if you bought a 3.5 with a holley 600 on it would you expect that to be perfect cos po fitted it??

anyway something to think about and prehaps..(just prehaps) do some googling on..we could both (thor and i) be wrong..

Its direct from Edelbrock racing. Other numbers on it are 08302 18 3 on the base

I'm always on the defence with him its just how it works now


I have no idea where its come from, my mate bought it with the carb on the engine and it ran sweet

I cant find anything relating to the numbers on it but once tuned up properly it'll be ok, its right on the limit for a 429 as far as I can tell from looking online as this is the size of as up to 420 a 750 carb is bang on so if I tune it to be right on the low end of fuel delivery it should be fine
