Hi,

I have a 1988 2.5 Turbo Diesel landrover 90, it's very uneconomical (about 10-15 to the gallon) but the tires fulda tramp mud terrain and my driving style dont help.

when i was looking to buy, i saw that some of the landrovers of this age had the newer 200tdi engines fitted. How difficult is it to swap my 2.5TD engine over? and does anyone have any information about how to do the conversion

Alternatively is it possible to add an intercooler to my engine?

And one other question, the most economical speed is said to be 56mph.. but this can't be true for land rovers, because mine is revving its nuts off at 56mph, what is the most economical speed for a land rover 90 2.5TD ?

Also, mine is the commercial van version, and i'd like to make it slightly more "car like" on the inside, it has a head lining for the front, cd player. but that about it. Are there any seats that can directly bolt in from other (more comfier cars)? and can you buy a rear roof lining, likewise is it possible to buy carpet for the floor and gear stick covers instead of rubber mats.

Thanks
Daniel

Thanks
Daniel

A 200 tdi will fit on your gearbox nps, you will need to fit the intercooler and rad from the donor 200 along with the front part of the exhaust and diesel filter housing.
baring that they are a piece of cake

Hi,Brilliant, do you know of any websites or literature which shows how its done?thanksdaniel

Hi Dan,

Look at the thread above yours. If you're after a 200TDi, maybe you can have mine..! :) Unless I get told I'm mad for wanting to stick a V8 in my 110...

Cheers.

Brilliant, I've sent you an email about it.

Any one know about the home comforts for the defender 90, such as rear headlining, comfier seats etc..?

Can anyone confirm that? about the 200tdi breaking gear boxes.

Should i go for a 300tdi ?

And why is it people say the 200tdi is better, when its older?

I'm pretty sure the 200TDi and the 300's extra torque would cause it go through series gearboxes like Phill Jupitus goes through pies.

As for the gearbox that's linked to the 19J I'm not sure, but I would say it will have some extra torque and so you may have to watch it.

Hi sorry i not jumped in sooner i own a 2.5td 110 1989 5 speed box so will be same set up as your 90 i think! and i am a bit shocked when u say it revving the knackers off at 56mph! as mine will cruise happily at 60mph and when needed do 70-75 no probs but dont like doing that speed cos it does start revving too much and i have got smaller tyres fitted than normal!
When i say smaller they are 215-80-16 AT (about 29" tall) as apose to 750-16 (about 30-31" tall) so in theory if i put 750s on mine will go quicker and use less revs! Or are you running 205 80 16 mt tyre which i think are about 27-29" tall dependant on manufacturer! so will need to rev more to get the speed! not sure whether this will help with u changing engines though!
Ps i get between 22-27 mpg dependent on right foot round town! and prob about 28-30 on a good run i travel up to lakes a bit for hols and ocasionally down shropshire to see friends in it!
PPs i also own a rangie with a 2.8td izusu fitted which returns 28-30mpg.:)

the tires are small, well smaller than my friends.

The difference when cruising at 50 is amazing, his is quite.

I think in its earlier it has had a transfer box alteration giving a lower gear ratio, because i tested top speed the other day and it struggled to reach 70, flat out revving it absolute bollocks off (thought it was going to explode)

Oh well... all should change when i fit the 200tdi... just got to find a good one ... ANYONE GOT ONE FOR SALE ?
