I've just recently bought my first 1980 series 3 and whilst draining the oil out and replacing the oil filter I put fresh oil in the rocker cover instead, and now I have a problem.., it doesn't turn over it just makes a wurring noise? It started before although ran very lumpy which I why I was doing the service on it.., any help?

It was starting first time upto me replacing the oil etc though, doesn't it make a difference about putting the oil in the rocker instead?

Changing the oil shouldn't stop it running - and later engines only have a filler hole in the rocker cover. Whirring but not turning over ( I presume you mean the engine isn't going round at all) sounds like the starter motor isn't engaging so the next question must be - is it petrol or diesel?

It's a petrol 2.25 the oil should of gone down the long tube next to it on the left , so do starter motors on these do is at any time then with it starting ok before?

doesnt matter were oil goes in rocker cover ,filler pipe ,it will still just drain through to sump, check starter

I don't have a filler tube on my 21/4 petrol - don't worry, as long as you put enough oil in. The starter solenoid and starter are both on the same side as the oil filter so you might have disturbed some of the wiring - take off, clean and replace all the high current cables, both live and earth.

I'll check the wiring tomorrow and take a look at the starter , just glad to no that it's not knackered! cheers guys, I'll let you know the outcome !
