Did a check of my coolant tonight to find pure oil in my expansion tank had a feel around the oil cooler and it appears to be coming from there...

So my next question how easy is one to fit

Ive been told you remove the manifold, the starter and the undertray and get it from below is this right or is there an easy way

Also im struggling to find the oil filter housing gasket and the small o Ring that goes between the oil cooler and the filter housing anyone got any links for these please.

I did mine a couple of years back. I'm still getting oil migrating into the expansion tank. I'm sure it's just the remnants that are stuck in the waterways, despite several flushing sessions. The gaskets and O rings were easy to get. I'll post the PNs when I look them out later.

When its all back together washing machines tablets are good for the cleaning part.

Nice one Thankyou what did you have to remove to fit the oil cooler/ filter housing also is there anything I need to know

Removing the starter will give you more room to get at the cooler. I'd take the top hose outlet off too, simply because it gives extra visibility. The coolant needs draining anyway, so popping the top hose outlet off is no biggie. ;)

So will I be able to get to the oil filter housing.

As the part I've got has both the oil cooler and oil filter housing or would I be easier just doing the oil filter housing.

I'd only remove the cooler from the side of the filter tower. There's no need to remove the filter tower unless the bottom gasket has failed.

Managed to change the oil cooler been a week now and all seems good got to re flush the coolant was a nightmare flushing it as the under tray is solid so had to Point the pipe out the side of the fuel burner plastic but hey ho I cracked it re flush at the end of the month now

On the question of creamy gunge in the expansion tank, I have done 3 flushes now and still get droplets of what looks like oil in the tank, ive checked all the service docs for the car and there is no sign of an oil cooler being fitted so am i right in suspecting the oil cooler is the culprit ? Its a TD4 engine 2.0 sport (bmw) im hoping its not the dreaded hg but not sure as i dont get white smoke, coolant loss or creamy mush in the oil filler cap, the temp of the engine seems to be normal so im on the verge of ordering a new oil cooler, any comments would be welcome
