Hey chaps,

I saw in Feb (I think) that someone fitted a Puma heater to a 300tdi, was wondering if it would be worth fitting one to my TD5?

Are the Puma heaters more efficient? Quieter? Easier to adjust flow/heat?

They are pretty cheap second hand...

Cheers
Josh.

very good question

but i have no issues with the climate control on my td5 unless you have coolant blockage fuel cooler thermostat issues

I think i would prefer to work and refurb one on the bench (as opposed to taking my one out) then when I have cut myself to ribbons and am surrounded by knee deep bits of sheet metal pop it in.

Im not on about swapping the whole dash or anything, just swapping the matrix/fan

I think the puma matrix is a monster compared to the def one, its about twice the size and square, matrix and housing sit inside the puma cabin in the middle, not in engine bay I think.

I guess you could source an def uprated matrix as in the video, and look for a better spec fan....

Bloody hell. That is quite the unit...

Guess this is a pointless endevour then! Maybe just a more refined fan speed controller instead of just "a little bit" and "full blast" haha

Now that is a good call and again you are mind reading again stop it , makes me nervous.

Options / ideas

1) fully variable control
2) stepped control 5-8 steps

Easy to do, just having a goosey at parts needed now, problem is i would really like to keep the control so thinking could either

A) have a three step motor instead of the two we have now
B) Get jiggy with the controls and create a few more steps

As I have a dog guard between me and the load space, I was trying to find a fridge curtain to fit inside for winter months.
You know the clear very thick plastic strips over the chilled stuff in shops, ideally don't want strips just want a bit i can velcro up across the dog guard in the winter, to warm me cab up quicker. can only find it in strips so far.

Thats what im thinking now! If my brothers 04 Fiesta can output good heat and a low, non ear melting speed then should be able to mod the TD5 system tk be a tad more refined.

The fan switch we have is super simple, low setting is 12v through resistor, and then full bean is just 12v straight to motor.
could use something like this:
