Well, there you go, you've got a picture of what it should look like, so some 19mm ply, some offcuts of carpet and a couple of handles off ebay and you're cooking by gas. The only drawback is that it would make the back about a foot higher for the old dog to jump up to get in.

Me, I keep everything in a big yellow bag apart from a towing pole, torque wrench, rubber 'ammer, a fold flat sack truck and a T-Max tyre inflator.
The bag holds all sorts of stuff; torch, 'dry' first aid kit, collapsible shovel, tow strops, shackles, HD jump leads, a toolroll of basic spanners, work gloves, hi-viz overjacket, warning triangle, LED work light, yellow twirly light, general bits and pieces like cable ties, swarfega, paper towels etc.
And yes, it is a very big bag. There's a couple of packing blankets in the boot too.
The LR supplied "tool kit" lives in the pocket on the tailgate door as was intended.
The theory is that while I carry the kit to address whatever might happen, it won't happen.

funny u should say that about building one

got a brand new 1/2 inch router that i've never used and as u mentioned it thought i could put that to good use by building a unit

only thing would be in trying to get a template of the boot, unless i taped some newspaper together and done it that way

the dogs go on the back seats , bought them a harness each so they don't end up on the floor if i brake

see ur point regarding the dog access mine, maybe build the unit with a gap in the middle

attaching some heavy duty drawer sliders for the ramp ???

leaving the middle seat down so they can walk through onto the back seat ??

just got to try and work out how to do it

thks again

Why would you need a template? If you just make it in a 'tee' configuration, it should then be able to slide into place from the back door and not slide any further forward because of the inner wheel arches.

sorry i'm being a doughnut , the panels are straight aren't they

do apologise but trying to work out this T shape ur talking about

thought if i built a unit for either side with a space in the middle for the ramp , screwing some heavy duty sliders on the boxes in the space to attach the ramp to

leaving the second row seat back down , for the dogs to go through and onto the seat

don't know if that's makes sense , always harder trying to visualise something :D:D

Sorry Gary, I'm being the doughnut. Yes, the internal sides of the D3 are flat. I was thinking that the internal wheel arches might have protruded into the loadspace, but it seems that they don't, in which case the "Tee" arrangement is a total red herring.

pheeewwwww, that lets me off the hook then :D:D:D

I know it's a D2 but.....

Don't forget the dog will find it harder to get in.

If you are building your own get some Bosch rain and Composit panels, nice Nd light yet strong.
