aint they salisbury axle guards?

they dont protect the whole pan, but stop a lot of the trapped mud, which usually rots out pans in next to no time. If yu can justify it go for a strengthened diff pan - like those from steve parker.

i still reckon they rot the diff pan - a pressure washer cant clean them propper, but they are cheap (until yu cost in replacement diff pans).

tis a simple enough job to unbolt em if they get clogged up. They are like anything if you leave them on permanently and ignore them then they may well rot out the diffpan but if you use a pressure washer to cleanout the mud after offroading and unbolt them and clean them out when or if they get stones lodged in them then they will have no adverse effect at all. They are a far better option then a busted diffpan. and cutting a diffpan out and welding a thicker replacement isn't everyones cup of tea.

It isn't even necessary to keep them on all the time it doesn't take much longer to fit one then it does to fit a wading plug.

i agree there, Pikey - but how many peeps DO remove the diff guard after a days mucky stuff? I bet most just pressure wash in situ.

I pressure wash them in situ after laning/off-roading, then remove them and do it properly every four outings/two months or so, whenever I feel like it ... but it is done regularly ... ;)

Pic is taken the day they were out on ... they're a tad different colour now .. and the steering guard is bent ... ;)
