No need it's simple - funny headed bolts - male ROTC I think they are called. Check underneath.

Unbolt at diff unbolt at gearbox end drop bearings on VCU it cones out as one unit - it's heavy but a doodle to remove. Expect 4mpg more quicker acceleration better steering lock ( yes I don't know why!) BUT rubbish grip in snow ice mud etc

AND totally invalid insurance if you have a prang and the assessor sees it before you bolt it all back on again!

Thank you angeloc, thats what I was after.

I know I should have looked round a bit harder to find the information and I normally would have but, I needed the car quickly today to make an important appiontment and have to admit I was flapping a bit.

Still no explanation from Beneagles ?????

If you declare it as a mod, then all is well. To be honest, I declare EVERY mod I do, for the price of it, it's worth declaring them.

So sorry for not replying immediately to your question - small matter of having to Recover yet another Freelander with head gasket problems.....and anyway...you answered your own question

I took the propshaft off this afternoon, buy still have a kind of metal to metal whiring noise and handling is not so smooth. Can anybody tell me if a damaged IRD would still be causing this without the propshaft on, or could there be damaged caused elsewhere?
