Hi everyone! My name is Theo, I live in Norway and drive a Freelander 1.8, which I have had since new (year 2000). I am new to this forum and think its a great idea. Hope to contribute myself in the future; for now I need some advice.

I fitted 2 new (OEM) Propeller Shaft Bearings (bought from RimmerBros) and since then my landy is making a high frequency knocking noise on close left and right turns when transmission is engaged.

Took it back to the garage and they asked me to change the VCU, which I did, to no effect (not a bad idea anyway at 81.000 miles).

They then investigated and showed me that the prop shaft was very loose and by fitting a rubber tube in one of the bearings the noise stopped.

Does this seem like the bearings' fault or the garage's fitting fault?

Hi and welcome.
It's very difficult to diagnose noises over the Internet. There are so many items that can potentially cause noise. I always return to the last thing fitted, prior to the fault being noticed.
Have the bearings been fitted correctly, using the correct method? If not then they will be noisy and fail quite quickly.

Thank you Nodge. The garage was a bit ingenious in the end. They fitted some kind of quick-dry glue to make the bearing holes smaller and all seems well now...
