it got me when i noticed mine has had the dynamo replaced with an alternator and all me wiring had been bodged and cobbled together as some sort of conversion

and those skid marks in the garage look more like the result of an enthusiastic burnout

:D its alive:D

Now is this the front or the back?? :D :D

Ok got two o these little beauties...........

Neither of em worked, however they are virtually bomb proof and unless they need re-winding they can almost certainly be got going.

Tools required

Medium flat bladed screw driver,
Needle nosed pliers x2 if no small forceps
5/16 or 8mm socket
Cloth...... ok several cloths it gets messy
Grease
WD 40 or similar electrical contact cleaner

Thing to watch when undoing the bit below (and you cant see it on this shot cos it had already come off and the shaft was loose which was why I started this end) is a C clip on the shaft holding back the spring. Be ready with long nosed pliers and a cloth to catch it and the spring. Alternatively take the pressure off the spring with pliers/forceps and remove C clip. Either way take care not to lose either bits.

These are the bits you should have

After removing the cover this is what may confront you that grease is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, even so that old grease goes quite hard so take all the gubbins out and clean all that crap off

Just ease the connecting rod off gently, it should prise off easily with a screwdriver behind it. I think you'd have to be pretty ham fisted to bend it but take care anyway.

The large final gear should also come out fairly easily, pull it out as square as possible to avoid straining the bearing

and the same for the smaller intermediate gear.

Clean all the old grease off.
Then turn the bugger round undo the wiper arm release screw and the two screws holding the cover on.

Pull the cover off a little way and undo the power screw pad and very carefully slide the pad out, remember them wires are old and could be brittle.

Gentle lift the brushes off the rotor and check for wear, they are fairly easy to replace but you will need to de and re-solder the field coil connections.

Have a look at the windings to see if there is any blackening you could always do a continuity check on the wiring whilst your at it.
Finally spin the rotor assembly, this one had some bits of metal jamming it, bit of WD 40 and a wipe was all it needed.

Re-grease the gears and bearings etc and reassemble. Sorted

i must say though the way youve done those motors should have them right cleaning the windscreen well into the future hopefully

keep up the good work and dont be shy with the piccies

ps arthur looks a lot better now hes not got that shooting stand thing on the back now :D:D:D

Umm, nice piccies indeed, and a bit of a "how to" as well. ;) :)

However, apart from pulling the scrap off the back of the tub, and playing with the wiper motors, not much done me thinks

Fair point, but there's no heating and little elbow space in t'garage ;)

Shall be progressing quietly now the weather's better and daylights longerer ;)

Either that or pop round and lend a hand, will need several bods to take the tub off. :D

do it like i did unbolt it walk the tub off the back over the rear crossmember to its tipping point then let it stand on end

walk round the other side of it put a cushion under the seat back bulkhead bit get yer shoulders under that and lean forward as you lift with your legs itll be nowhere near as heavy as you think :D:D:D:D:D

Lifted mine with a scissor jack, and left it sitting on scaffold planks across trestles, drove the chassis out from under it, easy peasy. :D
Mines a 109, you'd lift that little thing you have with ya nob..
