hello everybody
this in my first post here.
i hv a freelander from 2001 3doors Td4 and i hv problems when i wanna start the engine.
i know that every time when i start the engine i have to wait a few seconds and after that to start the engine.
i did that, but the car still dosen't want to start only after 5 or 10 shuts.
Sometimes it starts and after 1 sec the engine is stoping again.
if someone had this problem please help.

Hello marius !

I suggest you start by replacing the fuel filter if its not allready been changed, If thats not any help then check both the fuel pumps are running ok by unplugging the fuel pipes and switchin on the ignition, If all seems to be working then you should check the glow plugs are workin ok

Hi Marcus, just had a similar problem, to cut a long story short,it turned out to be one of the injectors, leaking high pressure fuel back to the low pressure side!! You could take it to the garage but first you could have a look yourself. I took the fuel return pipe off number one injector and blocked it up with a small bolt, then placed a plastic tube onto the injector( were the pipe I removed was) and placed the other end into a jar. Turned on the ignition to the second position to engage the low pressure fuel pump. Low and behold fuel leaking into the tube. did the same thing now on each injector in turn (remembering to block off the other fuel outlets) until I found the leaking injector, number 3!!!!, Changed that and the old girl starts a treat!!
Hope this helps.

yes good advice given.. . . .but always check low pressure side furst like the Mondo sis, its quite common for the rear one to go weak , both pumps [low pressure] work off the same fuse and relay . . .wiff ignition on [yes i know its a doozle] puttin yer mitt on pump , should vibate for bout 10- 15 sec then stop , thats when the pressure switch says ok i got fuel. . . .the system is self priming, but if its sucking in air [poor joint] it mite never completly prime so worth checkin wot mondy sis. . . .then look to high pressure side. . .un best oh luck earthling :) :) :)

Hello Guys,
Ive been having some similar problems with my 04 td4 began to misfire badly eventually stopped on me... I checked primary fuel pump and changed filter element had injectors to bosch whom say theyre fine re installed them still ran like a bag o rusty scaffold clips.... went to landrobber for a pressure sensor in common rail end as cleanin did nothing and hey presto it ran like a good un... unfortunately if allowed to stand for a few hours, it takes a fair bit of cranking to get a decent run out of it.... feels like fuel but scanners says primary pressure is normal and once running its good.... im a little stuck now for a possible cause. It almost seems like the rail is losing pressure should this be retained as a residual pressure does anyone know? if so is it being allowed to bleed back through pump/solenoid valve? Im goin to check bleed back from injctors anyway just to satisfy myself all is well with them , but im open to suggestions.....

cheers

thanks every one for the advises, i went to a local service and they found a bad injector, now they said that it could be cleaned with a sonic machine but i'm not really happy with this solution.Should i buy a new one? here a bosh injector is 2oo euro and the costs of cleaning is 20 euro... i don't konw!!!
