Problems with Reverse

Hi all,

I have been having a problem with my 94 300tdi. It goes into reverse ok but when I try to move I have to give it a few more revs and then there is a slunk and it jumps backwards and is very "lumpy" almost like it's being kangaroo hopped in low range. This doesn't always happen but has been doing it on and off for a few months. Not sure if it's linked but sometimes there is a bit of grinding when going into 1sr/2nd but not always and thats been happening for over a year. Towed a caravan 200 miles today and not a problem.

Anyone got any suggestions?

i had a problem like this with a citrone xm not sure if a landy could suffer this but turned out my diff was caput and locking up when i tryed to reverse i also lost a few gears as i say not sure its the same in a landy
