My wipers stopped working on my freelander 2, 10 days after my 3 years warranty was up. i took it to a landrover garage and looked at it there and then.
1st they thought it was a relay, they swapped that over, didnt fix the problem, then they put it through the computer, and said it was an earth problem.
they looked for 4 hours then changed there mind, said it was the control panel (cost £500 + vat,+ lab),
they phoned main office, they said try the windscreen wiper motor again, turns out it was the motor after all.
my problem is that the dealer took five hours to find this problem which i think is excessive.
they said they would charge me 2 1/2 hours lab (£120.00 per hour) instead of 5 hours and would charge me £50 + vat + labour for the motor.
i'm looking at a bill of around £500. instead of under £200.
Is there anything i can do about this, or is this a good deal as they let me off half the labour cost?
any help would be nice

Have they fixed the problem yet?

If not, take the car to an independent garage and ask them to replace the motor...and you supply the motor, that way all your paying for is the labour.

thanks guys, think i'll put a hold on them doin any more work more it ,
it did sound dodgy to me but a second opinion is good, thanks again

if you asked them to fix the wiper fault, the time spent in mis-diagnosing the problem is their cost not yours.

As a so-called specialist technician trained on your vehicle (or similar such sh*t posted on the land rover website), they should have been able to pinpoint this fault in under an hour. You should not have to pay for their lack of knowledge and/or expertise.

truth is, they probably gave it to the apprentice who f*cked around not knowing what he was doing, then had to justify his time.

get someone different (e.g. missus) to ring the dealers out of the blue, and to ask how much in parts and labour to change a wiper motor as they have been told theirs has failed by the AA/RAC etc. you then have a figure to work to.

good luck.

hi optimus,
i was wonderin why i had to pay for them to mis diagnose the problem
i will get the missus to phone em
what rights have i got to pay for jus the wiper motor and lab, or jus say i dont want them to fix the problem, and take it away without paying for the diagnostics,
thanks for the replys guys

and then write to lr customer services and tell them it is not good enough when parts fail just out of warranty and demand some recompense etc
