Hi everybody,
The garage changed the engine oil cooler pipe but accidentally broke the cooler. He asked me to buy a new cooler and paid for the labour cost of changing the cooler. Is it normal?

Very tricky to just change the cooler pipes on these beasts. If I were doing it I would be expecting a new cooler as the threads are often stripped. If the garage is a Land Rover specialist they should have been aware and let you know it was more than likely to happen.

Don't know about the etiquette of these things tbh.....I break my own coolers. But I once had a garage strip every thread on an air con system. And then say it was going to cost £700 to fix. The cost for them to do this was £210! But they did valet the car foc! So your situation seems pretty reasonable tbh. Cars are ornery buggers when they get old.i ended up fixing the air con with a repair kit and a new drier.

It is not normal to be able to change an engine or or transmission oil cooler pipe save for maybe on the manuals without changing the cooler at the same time. The internal steel nut threads get attached to the alloy threads on the coolers through electrolysis. It is extremely rare if they screw off clean. So if a pipe is leaking always budget for news pipes and cooler.
