Hi all

I have a problem with my p38. When warm it has problems starting. I have to turn over the engine for 10 seconds several times. When cold there are no problems.

It has also started to run a litlle rough when idling (just a little) and loosing a little bit of power when running uphill.

I have ordered new spark plugs and wires. The airfilter is new.

Any suggestions what else could be the problem? I do not have access to a tester yet.

Kind regards

Kasper

Ps: my first post here and sorry if the topic has been covered before. Could not find an answer....

could be your coils. Had a right game with mine. Decided to change them when they started smoking. They are cheap but a bummer if you've a thor engine as they are right at the rear of the block,

Thank you very much for your quick responses.

The temp sensor you are referring to - is it this one: Range Rover P38 V8 EFI Engine Temperature Sensor MEK100160 | eBay

Kind regards - and thank you

/Kasper

Don't have a clue. One sensor is for dash gauge one is for ECU. It's the ECU one you want. MEK100160 is for 1999 on. The Landrover part number quoted in the add is for up to 1999 and is the one depicted. Later MEK one is different. Sure there should be one but can't find any reference to ECU temp sensor in parts list. As i say there are usually two fitted one for ECU one for gauge.

What about the fuel temp sensor? If that was giving funny readings it may well cause starting issues.

Thanks for all your valuable input.

I will order an ecu temp sensor as well.

Kind regards

Hi all

I have now replaced/changed:
Battery; HT leads, spark plugs, oil and filter, fuel filter and crank positioning sensor.

The starting problem is still there - though not as often. The car still runs a bit rough and does not have the power it normally has.
Today I received the temp ECU sender and I'm about to replace it. BUT - which one of the sensors is it (please see photo)? Or is it none of them?
