probably not a good thing...

I'm assuming that radiators are not meant to crumble into reddish green powder.

It's weird - it's not leaking or anything and I'd hoped it would be a part of Edith that I could re-use on her rebuild - but as I dismantled it, all the fine fins just disintegrated in big areas of the rad front and fell to the ground like snow.

Can these fins be repaired? Are pattern rads any good or is it better to get a landy one? As I'm going desert travelling I need a decent rad - can you upgrade them?

How did it happen anyway? age, or has it overheated? I didn't know that copper rusted, but I guess everything on a Landy does.

boo.

thats normal for an old un, they cant be repaired just recored and thats allmost as much as a new one these days as copper is darn pricey

old age and heat makes it become brittle so it falls apart... .
yer constantly heating it up and cooling it down so over time yer copper becomes 'work hardened'.. am not sure if you can get a tropical rad for it , maybe a search on some of the well known sites would prove fruitfull

just try and find an LR orginal rad as the pattern part ones arent built to the same degree of mechanical toughness - i needed one for a recent job and the difference between a britpart and orginal one was sorta shocking - theres a place in stoke on trent thats selling old stock orginals for about £80 brand new, youd probably have to pay that for a crappy copy one - will see if i can find the address

it's up the road from a rad recorering man in stoke (ok so thats not quite a OS grid ref)

thanks folks - i'd suspected that.

guess thats another hunner an forty quid on my rebuild then.

.......As I posted this Seanmoore2006 had posted about £80 originals - aye a contact would be great for them as I'm getting fed up with shonky brit-part parts.

dont hold yer breath for me finding it as i am a bit anal about throwing away all of the receipts for any landy bits i buy just in case er indoors finds them, adds them all up and then starts moaning about the Sunseeker we could have bought instead.

i'll have a look on google later for ya - its not Beamends btw
