Been trying to set the preload on one side of axle tonight used short bolts for quickness in changing shims and tourqing back up each time, think ive just about got it but cant get the original bolts to go back in they only go so far then no more.
Have I done something wrong ?? bottom bolt is the ones that were originally in on photo. top one is M10

the bottom bolt is a drive member bolt and will be too long the top a chrome ball to axle bolt and too short

I was sure I took the bottom bolt out of the old top pins, serves myself right for not putting them to one side, looked at all my other bolts and cant seem to find any suitable will have to try my local place tomorrow.
Whats the correct preload as some say more then others? Might have done mine to tight.,

its m10x35mm bx110071, if you have a 200tdi or previous model 8-10pounds without the seal fitted if later 200tdi if later 300 tdi 3lbs

Mine is 1987 110, but has had a 300tdi disco engine fitted, the preload at the moment is about 10 pound, should I change it??
Thanks for bolt number will try and get some tomorrow.

thats about right, its not the engine its the age /type of axle, presumably the earlier original axle

Well Stood for 3 and a half hours tonight trying to get Preloads right, Ive watched all the videos and read all the manuals and posts online, but every time I changed shims it just did not go the way it was supposed too.
Finally got one side at about 10 lbs then the other at about 8 lbs, Torque 70 Nm, but after placing the seal and bolting the retaining plate on the side at 10 lbs it has doubled to 20 and feels much stiffer, in fact its too stiff.
Did not touch the other side at 8 lbs but now on the scale it is just over 10, God knows what they will be at tomorrow. What the Hell am I doing wrong ??
Goy my Brothers funeral tomorrow so wont be back at it for a couple of days,

bush type is 8-10 then the seal so id think your spot on, it will obviously run in and slacken off a little both in the bush and the seal
Thanks Again James all your help and advice is really Appreciated, I was nearly ready to throw the towel in, don't know what Id do without your help. :)
