Was driving through town in my new model mini (which is not the slowest car in the world), and had a TD5 disco pull up along side at the lights.

I was having difficulty keeping up with him off the lights. Is this normal for this engine, or has he fitted a RR Merlin into it?????

Obviously when the first corner came up i left him behind...............

Might just be chipped; my friends TD5 will thrash a new Vogue (as I found out a few months ago), it's a flying machine - he can noise all the boy racers up all day long, he knows how to drive mind you.

It's not obvious that you lost him at the first corner; if you left him behind at the first corner he can't do corners. I have seen a Disco thrash things and it's on the corners that it wins.

You need to try a chipped TD5 Disco on big fat road tyres, and with automatic cornering enhancement and traction control!

It can make an otherwise responsible pensioner behave utterly irresponsibly! It can make Audi / BMW / Merc etcetera drivers go absolutely mental too. They usually lose the plot big time when a bloody LandRover out-performs them!

On roundabouts, in 2nd gear with the go pedal decked , and ACE and TC doing their stuff, not much will manage better.

A Disco is a lot more stable than it looks as if it should be - but you need NERVES!

CharlesY (speaking hypothetically and on behalf of a friend, of course)

By the time you have the chips in (like mine), the sport suspension pack fitted, the turbos, the intercooler, and low profile wheels a 1.6L min cooper will move (and go around corners), was not trying to say it was amazing, but the disco just seemed to be moving a lot more that i expected it too........................
