Hi All,

I have just bought a 1987 LR 90. The person who I bought it off said I needed a new steering box.. Took it to my mechanic, and he's told me there is no power steering pump, belt or brackets? Part number on the steering box is GEMMER 5401B01. I think the vehicle came with power steering when it was [produced?

Ta - Pete.

All those parts are available, new, reconditioned, or second hand.
Contact Paddock Motors, or Rimmer Bros, any of the usual suspects, they will tell you what they have and how much.
If you want to get the bracket or pump second hand, ring round the breakers.
IIRC, not all Nineties had power steering as new, although I think later ones like yours did. So you could just run un-assisted steering while you are getting the bits.

Post a photo of your unsure, but there is a good chance those things are ‘missing’ because you 1987 LR was never fitted with PAS.....

You can tell from the box - manual steering is a skinny box and PAS is much bigger with holes for the hydraulics to connect to.

Thanks for all replies. Gym membership is far too much anyway :)) It has the small steering box, so no PS ever on the beast!

No power steering on mine and not missed it.
No power steering leaks etc is the positive, slow speed steering is the negative.

I'd definitely go for PS, I've got it on Mine now it wasn't on my 1984, 110 As standard, as I get older and more decrepit I'm not sure I could cope without it.
