Hi all,

Yesterday my steering started to squeel as i turned the wheel, generally whilst dry steering or manouvering slowly. It would also become really hard to turn and then go slack when the squeeling stopped.

Today though i have no power steering at all and the squealling has stopped. Any ideas as im not gd at this sort of thing.

Thanks in advance :D

If the reservoir is full, there's no sign of any leaks (hoses and conections intact), belt not snapped or slipping (is tension good??) then perhaps there is a blockage in the system somewhere??

Is there absolutely no assistance at all when turing the wheel?

You don't say which engine you have - if it's a dedicated PAS belt then it could have broken leaving everything else working fine.

If not looks like the pump has packed up, take the belt off and give the pump pulley a wiggle and see if it seems slack, it could also have sheared and no longer pumps.

Dry steering is bad for PAS components.

Thanks for all your help, we've concluded the pump has packed up so will be on the search for a new one in the morning.

Cheers :D
