Hi to all
yesterday I had a "problem" with the steering. When I got to work and start working my way to a parking I felt like I lost the steering assistant for a few seconds. After I park the car did some turns at the wheel and every things looks Ok and had no problems at all during my way back home until I start to put it in the driveway. I felt like I lost it again but turn the wheel again and had no issues. Has anyone have this problem before? Should I start looking for the problem in the pump or the box?
It is a P38 2002 HSE and there is no leaks in the pump or box. I did notice that the recipient of the fluid seems to be leaking from the top (cap). I though it was the hose but the top half of the recipient is wet.

I'm pretty sure that I should be looking for a new pump but want to make sure.

BTY. Can this vehicle could be trick to show a false odometer reading. I bought it a year ago with "34,000" miles on it, but it had all the ball joints broken, it was converted to coil springs, one of the sunroof channels stock and had the heater hoses removed. And now this problem.

Check the belt for small cracks,if it is cracked(must replace) it could b slipping and causing this.do u hear any spueal when u turn the steering wheel?

I have heard something when I turn the wheel all around but does not sounds like the belt. The sound is more like when u run out of steering fluid.

Not sure about the odometer fiddle but it could be possible to hack. I would try a DVLA check for the mileage records which will also be logged with the MOT. No receipts or old MOTs? You could also call your dealer who will have a record of where any recalls and perhaps services were done. In fact this check could have been done before you committed to buying the vehicle but the bottom line is that the price paid hopefully reflected the lack of evidence of mileage and maintenance.

Amost impossible to frig the mileage, it's stored in the BECM and the instrument cluster. It defaults to the highest reading if either is changed according to Irish (he's busy supping Ouzo at the moment!)

I had the same situation just before the water pump blew. new pump gasket and serpentine belt about £70 from rimmers. But now i can hear the sound of running water which sounds like its coming from the passenger foot well, any ideas peeps?

Paul.
