Hi!

I have a Td5 ES with satanic electric folding mirrors!! They fold in and out very often and sometimes persistently!

It started a few weeks ago after a long run when I came into traffic or slowed right down etc. but I don't know if this is relevant to the issue.

It not seems to be doing it a lot, regardless of speed. I've read a couple of bits regarding a microswitch or something but have no idea as there's not much out there tbh.

The mirrors work and fold together, fold back in when folded out on the switch but they sometimes don't fold at all on the switch. I really cant detect a pattern other than when they start messing around they keep doing it for most of the journey but even then they sometimes surprise me and stop! Also, they do it for a few seconds after switching off and locking the car!

Its really getting quite ferociously irritating but worse still, really unsafe. I've even considered swapping them for standard non folding ones but they can be handy in tight spaces etc so I really would like to fix and keep them.

If any one has any thoughts then id be seriously grateful regardless as I'm pulling my hair out now. I've got to travel from the midlands to Minehead in it with a big twin axle box trailer at the weekend and I'm working away until Thursday night so time really isn't on my side.

Thanks in advance
Tom

First question, Do you have cruise control?
Second question, Do you mind if you lose the rear screen washer?
If the answer to both questions is "No" then set the mirrors as you want then pull the fuse, No 30 on the fuse board under the steering wheel.
It'll get you out of trouble until you have the time to sort it properly.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes it's got cruise control and no I wouldn't mind losing the rear screen washer but I've tried pulling the fuse and it also works the front electric windows so I lost them!

Was thinking I could pull the wiring connector out of the mirrors to try to temporarily get me out of bother?

Thanks again!

Might not be the solution but I have never really used the power fold mirrors on any of my cars that have it fitted so I would set them then unplug them from the loom.

There are a number of circuits involved with the mirrors; Vertical adjustment motors, Horizontal adjustment motors, electrical defrost/heating which are fitted as standard to all discos and power-fold mirrors as fitted to some versions of the Disco.
The power folding is controlled by the facia switch via an ECU, which I believe is fitted near the "A" pillar on the passenger's side, behind the glovebox. If that ECU is disconnected by pulling the plug C0907 out, then it should have no effect on the adjustment and heating circuits.
