Hi all,

I noticed a couple of drips of oil under my car and had a look under neath and saw this

As ridiculous as this may sound, shouldn't there be something screwed in to those threads?

Thanks in advance

This is normal as they are for fitting wading plugs into. There is also another one in the bottom of the timing cover but does no harm.Start at the top of the engine and look to see where it starts to get damp and then you have found the leak as likely places are rocker cover or cyclone breather on drivers side of the engine...problem oil leaks will be the head gasket or crankshaft oil seals where the gearbox will need to be removed for the replacing of the rear one.

You also have two rubber oil pipes on the drivers side of the engine which can split. Mine did, and I had BP drilling outside the house!

I had an oil leak I could not trace recently, the drivers side of the engine bay was covered in oil even up the steering column, I then noticed my lack of brakes if they were used in like doing a 3 point turn, the pedal would go solid and I would not stop, normal braking was ok.

Turns out I had a dodgy brake vacuum pump and it was ****ing oil out the back of it and somehow spraying it everywhere.

I have a leak that looks similar to that. I re-sealed the sump on and it stills does it. Turns out the sump has gone porous so oil is seeping through the metal!

As for my leak I think I have traced it to the rocker cover gasket which had split at the back. Have replaced the gasket but sheared the bolt tightening back on (well within tolerances) does anybody know the part number for the bolt part that the rocker cover nut attaches to?

Thanks in advance

Keith
