Yesterday I drove 200 miles towing the caravan.
Arrived at the storage yard and turned off the engine to unhook the caravan.

On getting back in the car it wouldn't start.
The red light (the one that flashes on locking) stays on constantly when the key is turned.
There is no sound to be heard when turning the key.

Other problems......the remote fob does nothing. It will not open or lock any doors.
The doors will NOT lock/unlock from the switch on the dash.
The rear window won't open with the key from outside...but does open from the dash switch.
The horn gives a short beeping when I open or close the drivers door.
If I lift the bonnet the horn sounds continuous beeping.

The only entry point is via using the key in the drivers door...but only opens the one door, no matter how many times turned.

All these faults appeared after yesterdays journey

Any ideas welcome.

sounds stupid but did you change battery's on the remote fob? i know that you most likely checked but it happens.....
best regards john

did you car start beeping from the dash when you last opperated by fob and opened the door if so it is the battery and the only thing I can think of

Thanks for the help both...

The battery in the fob was changed last October, so I don't think that is the problem. It was changed because of ther beep when opening the door, and hasn't beeped since.

I'm pretty sure it's a faulty fob, as opposed to battery problem.....

With the help of the Rave disc I've discovered how to use the "Emergency Entry Code".
I can now go through a long winded process of entering the code...and the engine and everything else then works.
This has to be done everytime to start the car.

I guess a trip to the dealers for a new fob is needed.

Thanks again.

i recently had the same issue and it repeated each time more frequently, until i called a spark the posative on the starter was knackered and needed swapping for a new 1, run a wire from the battery to the starter with the ignition on see if it starts/turns over, it will help diagnose if it is the imob ignition switch connection etc..

I had this problem last night could not get mine going I pushed all the wires about around the starter and it started, I have had this problem before and it was the negative on the starter.

Its a hard slog with a freelander a new problem every day of the week lol
The lads at work love to see me with the bonnet open ever lunch time.
