Hi there,
I'm relatively new to the site and wouldn't be great with motor vehicles so I am after some advice. I'm based in Northern Ireland.
About a month ago I noticed a pool of fluid under the drivers side - fairly close to the front wheel, just under it. Not an overly large amount but enough to leave a stain on a new patio'ed driveway for my wife! After a week or so of keeping an eye on it and smelling it I came to the conclusion that it was diesel.
I started the landy and took a look underneath; and there it was coming out, started a drip, then got slightly heavier. I took the car out for a spin and came back and the dripping had disappeared. This has happened every time I took it out, starts as a drip, then a small stream, then stops once driving begins.
I took it to a local mechanic who was very busy but took a quick (30 mins or so) look at it. He seems to think it was a leak at the high pressure pump. He said it needed special tools to get at it. He also said a high pressure pump was expensive and that it would be better looking for a second hand pump.
Anyway he said if it's not affecting performance (which I don't think it is, it's going well) that I should continue to drive it until he gets a chance to source a second hand part...
Has anyone any thoughts on this. I'm just a bit worried that especially in the current weather it could leave me stranded if it died out - also I can't park it on my drive which is always a worry...
Any advice or experience on this would be great.
Joseph
