The reality is, the older ones we own are aging and some of us have cars that have been ill maintained which means we are slowly undoing this or slowly rebuilding them. The hobby or unreliable bit I don't share, the problem with the newer stuff is as our Keith and others say are vastly complicated as to tick boxes and turn heads with image. The quality suffers as the technology grows and the long term build quality goes hand in hand.
Pretty much most big 4x4's are slowly becoming all the same marketing tools. I'd love a modern LR but only to hand it back after two years leasing from new if I could afford and justify it.
As it is your choice my good man you should do as you please an do so with care. :) good luck with your choice :D

i think i saw a youtube video where someone replaced the shells for ones with tabs.. before there was a problem, can't remember which channel it was on
It poses the question as to why there weren't tabs in the first place? For most of the engine design history there's always been tabs on the shells for this very reason

This is actually unbelieveable, no tabs? of course they are going to spin at some point, who designed these engines?
engineer? more like a retard.

Getting back on topic;).

I would look at it like this. On any forum you will always seem to find more bad than good, that's the nature of them as in "what's wrong now" and "how to fix and not get shafted by a stealer". There are many here who say the new brand is crap:eek: but they are here cos thats what they have:rolleyes:.

So with that said. I wouldn't entertain anything with the V6 in it:p. The SDV8 in the 405 is just an upgraded version of the TDV8 in the last of the L322 with the same 8 speed autobox. I cannot say anything about the petrol versions. Also the sport was never on the radar as a choice mainly due to the engine.
Our L322 has been no issue, other than normal service items, some maybe a little earlier than I would have expected but. They are not the same costs as a ford fiesta service;), but if its kept up and little niggles sorted promptly it will be fine.

It has been mentioned more than once that the previous owner is your enemy in alot of cases, as for a dealer warranty or private, as far as warranties go most are probably not worth the paper they are written on without a fight. But with a dealer you have a bit more comeback in the first few months.

We brought our 322 at 3yrs old, flew to Germany and drove it home, its been great:). I guess we were due some luck and a win in life:D.

If you are going to buy 1 then look around and except nothing wrong in the slightest, or promises to fix;).

Dont rush in and good luck:).

Any particular pros/cons for either model?
I'm not into "spannering" myself and need the most hassle free running experience as possible for the aforementioned health reasons.

I think we are still on topic............just.
i.e. Con's of the TDV6 =1 big one, Pro's = still waiting for them.....I mean there must be some if you don't include to £600+ tax bracket.
Don't think the OP has said how deep their pockets are yet :)

Personally I would love an L405 but would struggle to justify a 4.4 V8, just a shame about the TDV6 version.

Do you really need to consider pros with such a big con against it to start with?

Whats to justify you need to get your "man math calculator out " that will sort it:D.

University educated engineers that use CAD and have absolutely no practical experience, they can't even design tumble dryers that don't catch fire these days.
