Does anyone have any opinions of portable electric winches? I'd like to hear
from those who actually have owned one. I do not need a heavy duty one (eg.
from SuperWinch or Hi-lift). I just need one that can
pull a car with no engine up a driveway into a garage. I won't be pulling
more than 2500lb on wheels so the ones rated at 6000 lb rolling weight suits
me just fine. Please don't go off and tell me how dangerous these things are
because I'll be using it well within the designed limits.

Harbor Freight has two portable winches on sale: item 39997 and 43331 for
$49.

You can see the two winches at:

I actually bought item 39997, but am wondering if 43331 is a better winch.
Again, same price. The 43331 winch is about 4 lbs heavier so it may have
a better steel frame.

Actually I would think one rated for hoisting would be pretty safe. My
Warn winch on my truck has warnings on just about every piece of
literature that says never to use it for hoisting. Of course observe
common sense, don't get close to the cable while pulling, make sure
anchor points are secure etc.
