Well got me new mota sorted, but having a few issues with starting from cold (overnight/8 hours at work etc.)... Cranks but doesn't fire until 20-30secs, shoving white unburned diesel out the zorst. Once fired can be turned off and on again straight away.

Fitted new battery as soon as i got it, as I thought it wasn't cranking quick enough... have since even used two fully charged batteries in parallel - not the issue then!

Then realised by giving her three or four bursts of glow plug before trying to turn it over, it fired within 2-3secs. - Glow plugs tired???

Another thought i had, could it be lift pump or air in fuel (hope not!) which area would you tackle first??

im guessing it the lift pump, check the fittings and pipes for looseness and rubbing could be a loose union or a small hole alowing air into the system and the fule to drain back. dose your glow plug light come on as i had a wire drop off of the glowplug relay and that caused a big starting issue

check air filter it takes 5 seconds to lift the filter lid and the same to inspect the filter. even try starting it without the filter in just remove the hose from trh back of the box and make sure you dont have any debris around for the engine to hover up as it will, it will be fine to test for a second or two, however a filter only costs a couple of quid last one cost me £3.50p (not Halfords)

hope this helps
cheers baz

Actually, a lot of the slow cold-starting on mine was a combination of shagged glow plugs, and leaking/split injector leak-off pipes.
