Polishing machines

hi

does anyone use polishing machines on their freelanders please.

been looking around but there are so many on the market dont know which one to go for

would just make life alot easier instead of having to polish the car by hand.

saw a EP800 model and a das-6

About 15 years ago I also bought such a polishing device (against the advice of the storekeeper) as I wanted my Mercedes 190E in spic and span condition for the marriage of my daughter. Against the advice of the storekeeper as I said as that's an item you hardly use according to him. And in fact, after that one time use I never touched it again until last week. During the last roadbook I did my car got "battlescarfs" on both sides and I thought to polish these out with the polisher, it worked but for the Freelander it's of almost no use, on the Mercedes I had big flat surfaces and sides etc. with less plastic panels where on the Freelander the huge plastic panels, which do not allow polish on it, are a pain for using such a device. I find it easier, for a normal polishing operation, to use the cloths etc. rather than the device. (The same story for my Trax, bicycle training device, was advised by the salesperson not to buy but I wanted such a thing and now that I got it I used it maybe 5 times over the last 5 years......)

Buy turtle wax ice,much easier than using polish!

Don't do it, just get it muddy. Or buy that spray on mud. But don't burn it.

Do you really need a polisher like this? A weekend getting the paintwork right with a good cutting compound will be much easier to "top up" with something like Zymol or turtle Wax Ice , once it's done it is much easier to keep on top of it, i think a polisher like the EP800 has it place but in bodyshops only...

Just use Turtlewax ice on the freelander... its the easiest by far as it can be used on the paint and the trim... so much trim.

Swan Vesta and can of petrol....

Unless you do it full on with a polisher its just as quick and easy to do it by hand.

I have a das 6 pro orbital polisher and by full on I mean.

1) Wash car

2) Clay car

3) Depending on state of paint, polish vehicle with a high cutting compound and high cutting pad(badly scratched) or light cutting compound and light cutting pad (lightly scratched). There are lots of variations in between. Never start on the heaviest of both because if you have a metallic you can strike through the clear coat and then a respray is required. This will remove nearly all surface scratches and oxidization but not deeper scratches.

4) Give it some extra bling with a glaze

5) Seal it all in with a good carnuba wax.

On my Rangie that takes all day twice a year, maintain by topping up the wax every other month. The results are stunning. And before every one chips in with Landys are supposed to be dirty. I do off road and you should see how easy the dirt falls off when your paint work is sealed up.

Not everybodys cup of tea I know but unless you do it properly just throw some polish on by hand.

thanks guys, i just wish to get rid of the swirl marks, just thought it would be a lot easier using a machine. but i know i would have to use alot of care

i did see the ep800 with the metz kit

however im very interested in the turtle wax ice, the trim on mine is black but has gone lighter and wish to bring it back to black,

i had a look in halfords but as there are so many thought that i may ask on here what you guys use please.

would the turtle wax ice bring the trim back to black, or have to use a specific one for black trim

use armor all

I just used Simonez gel on my bumpers, works really well and seems to last ok.
Don't have the bumpers painted! I have seen loads of Hippos with ruined bumpers when the paint starts to peel....

I use the Halfords polisher, with a trade autoglym. The results are good. Having just polished this.......


The freelander takes no time

The turtlewax ice is great on black trim, the key is to use very little. It will give your paintwork a great shine and will have your black trim looking new. Its definately the easiest and quickest method for polishing a car, especially a freelander.
I dont think you'll ever be able to get rid of swirl marks unless you leave it in with a professional detailer or get a respray.
