I was just wondering if anyone had converted from points to a new electronic module ?
How good are they and how hard are they to fit ?
I have just fitted new points and condensor to my landy now there is less power
THANKS FOR ANY HELP ALLAN:)

i'd stick with points and condenser, easy to fix if something goes wrong and generally a reliable system, did you gap your new points correctly and time them up correctly?if the timing or gap is wrong you'll experience a loss of performance.

Maplin do one for about a tenner thats a lot better than i was expecting and has transformed the starting of an otherwise good 2.25 i had in the other day, also feels a lot less lumpy when on the road.

I should add that i potted the circuit after i'd tested it just to keep it clean and dry - also a good idea to keep the traditionally used parts with you just in case.

I may have to look up the haynes bible. Points and condensors are long before my time may have set up wrong
hence i was wanting to change

it dunt get much less complex than a set of points and a condensor, and it's really not quantum physics to figure out how they work, you might be better off reading up on them before you splash out yer tenner

I think you might be talking about iluminition, anyway converting to electronic ignition is a good thing, points only stay accurate for 12hrs from new, if you fit an electronic ignition (dependant on type) it will use the points as a reference point only and wont wear out , the elec ign also usually has a switch to revert back to standard if needed, I recommend
Think of it this way, all modern cars have electronic ignition!!!

You can't argue against getting rid of points and condenser. Back in the day it could be argued that the points were more reliable. But the new electronic conversion kits are much more reliable than the points and condenser. If you're worried about it, keep the points in the car.
I usually switch to an electronic conversion with old cars. I find it makes them idle better, not really noticeable, till tune up time. No duration to check, no points to replace. No diminishing performance over time.

It'd be like telling someone carburetors are better than EFI, its just crazy.

As far as price, if you can't easily afford the kit, i can't imagine it being reasonable to drive a vehicle that gets 12 mpg.

I think you mean Lumenition, they are just one maker of (very expensive) replacement ignition systems - i've not seen any of their products selling for less than a £100 - which makes the Maplin one looks very good value, and it actually does work very well.

got a jodspark (from jod clark, a legend in the world of condensor less ignition) in mine. works a treat, condensor not required and uses the points a sa switch basically. reckons th epoints are good for 50,000 miles. I keep a set of points and a new condensor anyway (in the cab) jodspark was shy of 30 squid iirc....easier starting no condensors to f u up....ideal :)
