hi all, can any one give me a step by step guide how to replace the plug leads on my v8, been to 2 local garages to ask them to do it, ( 1 was a independent land rover garage)and they not interested ? .
looking at the engine there not much room to move, which side would you try ? looking from the front of thr car there no chance at the left hand side, is there any more room on the right ,if you remove the air filter and pipes. The independent landy garage aid you need to remove the upper manifold ? any help or info would be great....ta steve

I had to replace my coil packs and leads and because I have lpg fitted it raised the inlet manifold by 30mm and I couldn't get to the packs. Ended up having to get lpg specialist to remove lpg system and inlet manifold to replace.
Stupid thing is they are 'remote' coil packs and can be placed anywhere so why they put them behind the engine where it is so hot and cramped I dont know.
assuming you have a standard manifold it can be done in situ but I know its awkward and a lot of it is done by feel with small hands

The 4.0 Thor Disco engine is a major job to change the leads on, the whole of the upper manifold has to come out, and there is always a struggle to under the small fixing bolts (4) to release the coil pack assembly.

If I were to do the job now, I would disconnect the exhaust at the centre box and drop the front of the engine down to gain room at the bulkhead.

It can be done without removing the plenum chamber but it is tight, has to be done by feel and you will lose some skin from your hands. You also have to lay right across the top of the engine so do it when it's cold.

It took my indy about 20 minutes from start to finish.

Am having the same problem in addition to having a gas installation. If you got useful feedback could you pass on to me.

Thanks

I don't know how much the gas install impinges on your ability to get your hand down the back of the engine so can't help.
