hi,
i have a 4.2 petrol v8 from a '93 range rover. does anyone know if the LT77 will fit to it? do i need some sort of conversion plate or would i be better off getting a R380? or maybe someone has done this fit before and could give advice....

many thanks:confused:

hi the r380 would be the better box, as regards any of them being compatable.... i "think" the petrols have a short bellhousing so therefore the output shaft is longer so you need one off a petrol, think stig told me you count the number of teeth in the transfere to identify if its a p or d transmission. but yes i am sure they will fit. why you ask by the way??

thanks for the advice...i was about to buy a box from a TDI! i'll knock that on the head then...
if the R380 is the better box then thats what i'll get.

i've just bought a 1972 lightweight that had been used for offroading and i'm going to put it back on the road, it's currently got a 3.5 SDI engine onto the original box with webber carbs. i'm going to put a 4.2 (hopefully! or 3.9) and R380 in it. other things i'm going to do are coil sprung chassis classic range rover axles with disc brakes (braking at the moment is done on the front off side only!!!) LPG and fit the roll cage correctly. i'll post a few pics on here from time to time of the project....it'll take a while though as i'm a squaddie and am away alot!

thanks for the good advice guys and any other advice on what to avoid/spend more time on and pitfalls greatfully accepted...i am mechanically minded but relatively inexperienced on landy's:)

there's one like that in our village. looks really good.
dun't know the geezer who owns it, but am dead jealous.
chassis and bulkhead are galvanised too - an awesome machine.
