just like to say hi to all on the site and to start of with my 1st post is a nice simple one lol

my mate as a range rover p38 2.5 td couple of nights ago on way home it coughed and splutted then cut out, would spin over but do nothing but with a bit of easy start fire up and if you hold revs above 1500k would run but as soon on ideal cut out then pig to start
so tonight drained the tank and put fresh diesel in (as he had just filled maybe cr*p diesel) replaced fuel filter and blead fuel system, went to start it after about 10seconds it coughed but to luck bit of easy start fired straight up (i thought happy days) until released throttle and died will not ideal any help or advice would be greatfull,
would it be a possible injector pump fault or somthing simple
fuel pump in tank does work please help many thanks rick

hi welcome after we tell you how to fix your car are you just gunna leave.
Or are you going to stick around a help others out.

You need to get fault codes read. Maybe weak signal from crank position sender at low rpm. Other than that it's FIP problem.

sounds like pump to me, didnt someone on here have the same problem and adjust the stop in the top of the pump electronics and cure it?

No that was engine light flicking on. Which he said it cured. He said it was 2mm off stop. Although i am dubious about whether stop could wear that much. You would need to know if there was supposed to be a gap to stop for quantity servo, and what it was supposed to be when pump is built. Rather than just guessing the stop had worn. But the servo is returned to rest by a spring when power is taken off it, so he maybe right. Who knows.
