Please can someone help me?, i`ve bought eight weeks ago a 53 plate td4, so far the diff has gone after just one week, then last weekend a very loud knocking started on the front end passenger side. took it back to the garage were its been for a week, for them to tell me it was the prop shaft, to which they have replaced, they took it out for a drive only to find that the knocking is still there, the knocking is there when the wheels turn but only when i go forward and not on reverse, has anyone got any ideas please help.:(:mad::doh:

has anyone got any ideas please help

I have an idea.

Why don't you post the same question again in the vain hope someone will think, "Hmmn, didn't fancy answering the guys 1st post, but hey, he's posted the same question again, so this time I will reply"

Ooops, me bad, you've already tried that. 3 times apparently, one of them even in the section for completely the wrong vehicle.

If you have had to replace the diff it is symptomatic of a VCU which is either seized or at least has a very high resistance to slipping. This causes the transmission to the rear wheels to be heavily loaded by 'wind-up' when cornering, causing.damage to both the front and rear hypoid gears. The front one is in the IRD.
Tests you can do to find if this is the case are:-
1. Reverse on full lock. Does the engine slow noticeably?
2. Find what torque is required to cause the VCU to slip by the VCU Test. You can find how to do this by doing a search as it has been described many times here. Hippo has posted a video showing how it can be done.
