I've just taken this off my 90 and swapped for a disco one, but i've gained nothing by doing so.
All stickers have been removed from it previous and as such i have no idea what ratios this is.
I have however found the stamped numbers on it as in the picture, so i'm hoping this will be enough for some of you very knowledgeable members to be able to tell me what it is.

Thanks folks.

i can see the 41 in there but what would the 22d and 02 before 41 and the 55 after all mean james, if u know??
I'm wondering why i' seeing no difference in top end speed out of changing this!!
I spent a day and a half on my back struggling with it all on my own and no difference, plus the replacement whines and clunks when you shake the front prop shaft where it joins transfer box.
I'm pretty p***ed off to be honest.

with lr numbers they start with 2 numbers and a letter this denotes what the unit is ,last letter is suffix its type /age ,the 6 numbers are just a serial no,22d is 1.4 to 1 ratio ,disco 28d is 1.2 to 1 ratio, what that means is gear box has to turn 1.4 times to get 1 turn out of t/box or 1.2 times to get 1 from disco ,some disco boxes (mpi )are 1.4 ,plus gears get changed inside t/box to alter ratio sometimes ,if sumps removed you can tell actual ratio by looking at intermediate gear cluster ,the height of rear most gear compared to center gear on the cluster ,1.2 are the same diameter 1.4 rear most only reaches half way up teeth on center and 1.6 a whole tooth ,is engine boss of extra gearing ,big tyres fitted ?what was top speed before

Sorry folks. Been on phone to drewster.

Right, the box i put on was out of a 200tdi disco and has 222 on the stickers. Not sure about what's stamped on it and tipping down outside right now. Will look when i can.

Top speed after doing lift pump, on old transfer box, was 70. No different now. That's giving her everything she has.
I think the most i've had out of it is actually 75 on a down hill foot hard to floor in 5th.
If i sit at 60 on a flat i'm about quater down on throttle to maintain. As soon as i hit a hill, and not a big one, i'm right down to 50 in 5th and then changing to 4th to try and maintain that.

I was thinking that i would put up another thread with all this to see what head scratching of members can bring up as suggestions following chat with drewster.

Tyres fitted are 265/75/16. Has been same since i brought her.

Engine blew up doing 60-65 at full revs 1.5 hrs after buying her. The only thing thats made a difference is lift pump. And that just made her smoother and probably 5mph in each gear.

just dug this up if it helps

count turns of prop and one wheel jacked up ,3.54 diff needs 3.54 turns of prop for one of wheel ,if you just jack one wheel up ,wheel goes twice as fast so prop would need to be turned 1.77 times to 1 of wheel

first thing make sure throttle cable on injection pump is pulling pump fully open ,theres a plastic thumb wheel to adjust it on cable

Will have a look at that throttle cable mate. Thanks.
Hoping to be re doing transfer box and having gear box off to sort an oil leak on tues. will also see if i can look at the diffs then.

thanks for that could it be posible that a diff ratio diff as been fitted to his car and if so ?? what diff ratios are there and would they fit ?? as i allways thought that 3.54 was standard

3.54 is std def /disco ,4.7 was used in series and some specials 4.1 is popular after market ratio with the same test 4,7 would take 2.35 turns of prop and 4.1 2 turns

Thanks James.
If they have changed diffs, i would imagine they would have done both, but if not would it be back or front they will have done mainly!!
Just wondering which to look at for counts rather than looking at both

so would a 24 spline half shaft fit in all the above or are we looking at 10 spline ?
could either the plannet or sun gears be diff ??
