Planning Ahead For Chassis Swap

Just thought i would wake this thread up again as we are hoping to be getting our new galv chassis in the next couple of weeks, been looking on the Marsland site and they have stopped production of chassis as they are updating their machinery and won't be making them till the new year so it mite have to be a Richards chassis instead.

i have only ever used Marsland chassis in the past on mine and a mates series trucks but is there much difference between a Marsland chassis and a Richards chassis quality wise before we buy :)

It's good to hear you'll be in a position to swap your chassis soon. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

As to whether one or the other is 'better', it's hard to say. Each manufacturer seem to have its enthusiasts on here. If it was me I'd get a Richards if they can deliver quickly and get stuck in over Christmas and New Year.

Yeah it would be good to do it over Christmas, i have noticed that paddock are now selling Richards chassis now and not Marslands, richards want roughly £300 to deliver and paddocks don't deliver chassis now so just trying to decide do i go with Richards or paddocks and somehow get it here

Last I heard Richards had a pretty long lead time. But see what they say.

Marsland will be taking orders again in the new year, though they told me last week that the prices will likely go up. When I spoke to them in the summer they didn't know for sure whether they would be able to continue once Defender production stops - in other words didn't know if GKN would keep making them, so don't wait too long if you're after a Marslands... just in case.

Richards obviously won't be affected as they manufacture their own, other than potentially the lead times getting even worse!

I used a Richards' one on my rebuild last year, I was more than happy with it.
So much so I want one for another build off them, but good luck getting one anytime soon, I rang them 2 weeks ago and was told 10 weeks lead time :(

Ok well it will give us plenty of time to strip the landy down and prepare stuff like bulkhead and stuff if its needed, do you get the removable X member with the chassis or do we have to buy it seperatly as i am not sure :(

That's what I thought, then left it too late to order and now I want it in a few weeks..
No the removable crossmember isn't included, but the owner gave me one for free anyhow when I collected mine.

I got my galv 110 chassis direct from Richards, and including cross member, VAT and delivery, it all came in at under two grand.
I can't fault it for quality!
It is made out of 2.5mm steel, whereas I believe that Marslands are 2mm, so it should see my time out!
Unfortunately, there was a 7-week lead time, but I'm not in that much of a hurry.
As they are just along the M62 from manchester, you could save a bob or two by picking it up yourself from Mexborough

We put an order in for a galv chassis today, just waiting for an email from them to comfirm the order :D:D

once we start stripping the landy down possibly next weekend i will start a new thread :)
