Trip 1 sounds good to me :)

Who are you looking to go with you? Passengers or another vehicle? When are you planning on going? I have done a very similar route to what you have said...so has Big Ad on here (he has just come back). So if you want to know anything I am sure there are people who would be happy to give advice.

ime looking for a pasanger and sum more cars realy,

ive spoken 2 big ad his blog was realy intresting and helpful.

ime looking at going in about 1 year from naw give or take

sound cool,
trip 2 sounds the better for me but ill only do that after my trip to cape townwhich should be sept next year.then ill be doing a lot of euro tours and ill also do the baltics which will be about visiting family.
so keep looking at what we up to.
good luck

Found a site by accident called www.overlandtravel.org.uk looking for additional crew for Russia and Kazakhstan Expedition leaving August next year - you could be part of crew (but not in a Landy) and share costs or alternative is to bring your own vehicle. Rough camping etc. so keeping costs down. Looks like could combine a little bit of both your trip ideas?

cassie,

just looked at that web site and spoke to the people running it, ive come up a winer thanks very much for the heads up about it

Cool! Glad to be of help. Suggest you keep options open though in case the planned trip with this team doesn't come off (although looks like only newly advertised, I note there are no sponsers as yet to support so then what happens - will you put funds together collectively to make it happen anyway?). No reason why it shouldn't but just in case for other ideas - and for any others thinking about similar - keep an eye on The HUBB - well known good website - this section is travellers seeking travellers but there are always loads of useful threads Travellers Seeking Travellers - The HUBB

Always people looking to hook up together on various trips. Something might come up, else you could post there too.

But hope this one comes off. Best of luck! Keep us posted.
