On the 300 TDi (disco), we have a coolant leak from the housing that the
water pump sits on.

am I right in assuming that:

a) most of the ancillaries have to come off to change it
b) it's separate from the timing belt case and can be removed leaving same
in situ

and

Have you a gasket for the bugger, and if so how much?

Replacing the water pump (which died) has reduced the water leak, but it
still loses coolant. 'snot obviously going up the exhaust and there's some
evidence of a leak in the place mentioned.

Austin Shackles. www.ddol-las.fsnet.co.uk my opinions are just that
"Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero" (sieze today, and put
as little trust as you can in tomorrow) Horace (65 - 8 BC) Odes, I.xi.8

If the 300tdi is fundementally the same as the 200tdi in this area
then the water pump is connected to the "front" of the timing case and
can be removed / replaced with minimum effort.

IF your water leak is on the interface between the block and the
timing case just behind the water pump then the timing case has to
come off.

The daft thing is once the timing case is off (on a 200tdi) there are
2 gaskets - a 50p water jacket gasket and a £5 timing case one - A
clear case of crap design!

Just another thought. If you do have to remove the timing case its is
definately worth replacing all the oil seals whilst you are in there
(3 of them from memory).

....been there done this last week!

Luckily it's b) :)
The water pump and belt tensioner have to come off, so disasters aside,
you need a water pump gasket ERR3284 and the dreaded P gasket PET100790,
a toatal of £2.08

as above - I'll put them on the van for the market (Leek Cattle Market)
tomorrow morning 8.00am to 1.00pm, and have the in the 110 in the mean
if its urgent.
