After many months of searching last week I collected my 1997 110 CSW with 116k and full service history. It was a 'special vehicle' believed to have been made for BT in the old BT grey colour. Just 6 seats and a ply lined carpeted rear. It drives very well but not as nippy as my 90, its a totally different drive and seems far more confortable.
It has a minor problem with the clutch (I think) on starting the engine I sometimes get a whirring noise that stops as soon as I drop the clutch. I spotted it on the test drive with other minor issues, interior lights, rear wiper not working, flickering diff lock warning light, touch of rust on 2 doors, slight play in front (poss wheel bearing) but otherwise rock solid. Never seen such a clean chassis and I managed to get it for 5k. Done 500 miles after collecting it from London and a run up to Penrith... never missed a beat. My treasured 90 will have to go at some time.
90% of use will be on road but I want to prep it for light/medium off roading, green laning. It has 4 new Runway Enduro 265/75 R16 A/T on that should be okay for now? No protection fitted. I will sort out the electrical, clutch and wheel bearing issue first.
So.... how much do I pimp my ride? Not sure about the 'defender' decal running along the sides. Extra lighting? Roof rack? Swing away spare wheel carrier? What about them steps? Or should I keep it basic?
Of course I have some idea what I want.... but would be interested in what (if any) modifications or aditions you would make so feel free to pimp my ride! Well at least it aint another tyre thread:)

Looks like a really nice clean straight 110 there, nice one mate. I would be tempted to keep it looking nice and original, save for a few bits of protection as you mention. Enjoy it :D

Id forget any pimp stuff and spend the money on rust protection ... waxoyl the insides of all the doors , bulkhead , inside the chassis rails and outside .

get yourself the waxoyl spray kit , cheap tarp , and old deep fat fryer - fill the fryer with water and dunk your spray bottle in it full of wax ( gets REALY runny and spreads like hell :D ) .
After thats all done kick yourself for not buying a spray suit first and having to bin all your clothes as you will get plasterd .....
Then feel smug knowing that your landy wont rust for a bit :) .

Then buy your other bits :D - Id spray it green tho ..... not likeing that gray at all ( but thats just me ) .

i have them exact stickers on mine now , love em just coz ive got a few other orange bits on mine, but yea few bits of protection maybe, then take alook at other peoples and what they have done and see what u like

That clutch noise sounds like the clutch release bearing. My TD5 does the same. Apparently its a common prob, and nothing to worry about until it gets worse. Can last for years apparently, but when is goes it gearbox or engine out. Lovely!!!!

get the same on my 300 on startup :) try cleaning the switch for the diff lock, prob just gunked up.

just get some diff guards and take it as it comes :)

very neat, straight looking 110, well done

mines had a new clutch kit, 1000 miles later and the release bearing already making its self aware:p

I forgot I created this post! Thank you fo your replies. Yes decided to keep as original as I can. The paint is very good, just the back door is blistered. Paint code for BT grey shouldn't be hard to find. I can live with the colour although steel grey or green would be nice. GREAT TIP re the waxoyle Sypher! I can get the use of a pit to do that.

JUst 2 things to ask the audience.....

Need to try and source a fob as this has a FF alarm that has been disabled. Had a look on here, seems thieves can bypass this very easily (and anything really) but need it for my insurance cover. Anyone any ideas or do I take a chance on a used one off ebay?

The other thing I am thinking about is the side steps. They are very tired. Straight replacement or should I look at full length running board types. I need a leg up  and the side steps do look vulnerable even with light off roading? Any thoughts or pics please?

Ya could just get some meaty rock sliders and use them as a step up. They're much much stronger than a step.

looks nice mate, my 110 csw looked nice and straight like that before i got hold of it!

front steering guard, CB and some spotlights were the first steps for me. then came all sorts of stuff, mine isnt really a "light off roader" anymore

Just checked yours out.... they are not OTT and look very good! :) my 90 has a side jacking point/slot but just had a peek at the 110 and cant see an obvious side one? So no issues with fitting? Where did you get yours from?

Dunno about jacking points, I've only ever jacked from the axles.
I got my rock sliders from a small fabrication firm who had a stall at a local 4x4 show. Can't remember the name, they're very very sturdy though, weigh an absolute tonne!
