changed the slave cylinder on my 90 today,still no clutch.
noticed the clutch fork looked a bit loose so my mechanic mate decided to investigate..... OH BOLLIX..big hole in the clutch fork and to really make it a good day he told me the gearbox is fooked:5bhurray::5bhurray:
loads of play on the sticky out thing in the centre(dont know the proper description)
i need to know what gearbox i can use or would it be cheaper to get mine reconned
the '90 was origionally a 1989 2.5td
the car now has a 200tdi discovery engine(out of 1994 disco)with the origional gear/transfer box off the '90(reverse left and forvard)
 
you sure, crankshaft spigot bush supports it.

is input shaft oil seal ****ing out?

theres no oil ****ing out and when he turned the sticky out bit there was a few strange clunky noises comin out of it
when it was on the car and the car was turned off,after a lot of attempts, you could get all the gears except fourth
 
lt77 then as r380 later and lt85 fitted to v8's.

Note defender lt77 is different to disco lt77 and to convert a disco means stripping boxes.
Ashcrofts do recon boxes

so the only box that would go straight on with no messin about would be the lt77 off a defender,or would any of the later boxes go straight on?

Defender specific and also If I remember correctly later r380 box has different transmission tunnel.
 
sorry frantic,it has a disco 200tdi engine in so i thought a disco lt77 would go straight in,what needs to be changed to get a disco box in.
theres loads of disco boxes about but not many defender ones
