My Grandad used to say that, usually while I was cleaning spanners and wrapping them back up in greaseproof paper.

I really bloody well cleaned the surfaces... Blade, ally oxide light paper, thinners, sealant ..... What actually goes wrong with these things to make 'em leak??? 5 bleeding hours it took me to.

Blue Beastie... I have a fishing mate just like your horse friend..."oh yeah, where d'ya learn that?"

When I tell him about books he replies "the fish don't read those books though"

book knowledge is still only as good as the experience of who wrote it ,written knowledge doesnt necessarily carry more weight because its written than verbal ,its knowledge thats important not the method of transmission,he was probably to referring to knowledge gained through actual experience is more important than whats read if you think about real skills they had to do,and made more real in some extent with a university bloke doing blacksmith work at beamish when we took are kids this summer he knew what was supposed to happen but had no skill or natural aptitude to understand it,unfortuneatly a more common event now when people google stuff ,because its written must be true ,without understanding context
